PaddleBoarder FAQs

How often can members go paddleboarding at Scammonden?

As often as you want, almost. Daylight hours only and subject to the safety conditions below.

We do not run a regular session for paddleboarders, you are free to use the water as and when you want.

How much does membership cost?

For the calendar year 2023:

Adult: £80

Junior: £60

Family: £200

Can I hire a paddleboard/equipment?

We are a private members club and as such you do need to own you own equipment; we do not offer any equipment for hire.

Can I paddle on my own?

No, for safety reasons we require a buddy system, there must be a minimum of two paddleboarders.

What if I plan to join on my own?

If you cannot encourage other family members and friends to join then we still have you covered:

We have an active WhatsApp group for our paddleboarders who arrange regular meet ups. A great way to meet other likeminded paddlers.

Alternatively, providing you have spoken to the on duty sailing member (found in the shed) beforehandthey can provide your safety cover with the club safety boat when the sailors are out on the water.

Wednesday evenings the safety boat will be on the water between 7:00- 8:00pm (April), 7:30-8:30pm (May – July).

Just be mindful of the sailing dinghies. The on duty sailing member may restrict you to certain areas of the reservoir, or point out ‘no go zones’.

What rules do I have to abide by?

Two-person rule as outlined above

A life jacket must be worn when on the water

Once membership payment has been received a membership sticker will be posted out. This should be stuck to your persons, paddle or board and should be shown if requested.

How can I access the club, water, or facilities

Details of access will be provided on becoming a member
