Finally, the current lockdown is edging towards an end, which means from 31st March we can get back to sailing!! But while progress is positive, we’re not out of the woods yet so we all need to play our part in complying with the government and RYA roadmaps to ensure we all remain safe and well.
Sailing and racing
Sailing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday 31st March @ 7.00 pm followed by a 2 day programme over Easter on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th April (racing starts at 1.00 pm on both days).
Assuming all goes to plan the sailing schedule will then follow the 2021 Sailing Programme in your club yearbook. Where changes to the original plan do arise, these will appear on the SWSC website ‘Sailing programme 2021’ page and will be communicated as required via email and the ‘Sailing’ WhatsApp group.
A recent change, which is now updated on the web page, is the change of date of the Filey Regatta from 22/23 May to 31 July/1 August and an additional Trophy Day on 23 May.
The date of a return for the Saturday afternoon Race Academy is still under review. Due to the difficulties in maintaining adequate social distancing in support of less experienced sailors, the club committee/instructors would like a little more time to plan a safe and effective return. An update will be communicated as soon as possible.
How will the return to sailing work?
- From 29th March there will not be a restriction of numbers on the water but until at least 17th May the Rule of 6 or 2 households applies on the shore (indoors not allowed). This includes spectating and socialising.
- Covid-safe sailing duties have been allocated and these can be seen on DutyMan. Safety boat help and assistance will be zero-touch except for dire emergencies. If you don’t feel confident in the prevailing conditions, err on the safe side and don’t go out!
- From 12th April the club changing rooms and toilets can be used subject to what are now normal social distancing rules. See local notices for specific details.
- Until 17th May at the earliest the kitchen and bar area must not be used.
As the continuing relaxation of restrictions are confirmed by the government and RYA, these will be communicated and introduced within the club. In the meantime, welcome back to the water and happy sailing!
