Scammonden Water Sailing Club is a very friendly family club situated near Halifax, Huddersfield and the motorway network (M62).
The clubhouse is well equipped with a bar, pool table, games and cooking facilities. The boat park has space for well over 100 boats with more than ample car parking. Access to the water is via two gently sloping concrete slipways.
Club membership is open to all and fees remain low, particularly for students and juniors, so as to promote the sport amongst the young.
Whilst there is ample opportunity for cruising and honing of sailing skills, the main activity of the club is racing. Club racing is organised on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from March to mid-December and we continue right throughout winter with the ever popular Freezer OPEN and Snowball Sunday series (Jan-Mar) for the hardy. There is also racing on Wednesday evenings from April to September.
The sailing programme includes mixed fleet series, major trophies and open meetings. However, if racing is not your scene, then simply cruise around the dam and enjoy the sailing, the scenery, and of course the friendly atmosphere promoted by the club.
To help new members the club promotes a mentoring scheme, which consists of a member of the Sailing Committee giving advice and encouragement about both sailing and social activities.
Our RYA approved training centre provides training by qualified Royal Yachting Association instructors and courses range from beginner to instructor levels. The Training Centre has a number of boats and a small supply of sailing clothing for hire at a nominal charge while on these courses. Buoyancy aids are always available and are worn at all times on or near the water.
If you are interested in sailing at the club, or would like more information, you are more than welcome to visit the club during weekend racing. Club members will be only too pleased to advise and introduce you to a fantastic sport and recreational activity. You can contact us via the website.
