Caretaker’s Cup – Sunday 4th March

The new sailing season kicks off in style on Sunday 4^th March with the Caretaker’s Cup. This is a great opportunity to get your boat back on the water and hone your racing skills as we look forward to warmer weather and longer days. After the race the bar will be open, so let’s all get together and get the sailing season rolling.
The Caretaker’s Cup is a single race and ends when the lead boat crosses the line after 2 hours. Start time: 2.00 p.m.

DutyMan – our new interactive duty roster

For the 2012 season, we have introduced a new interactive duty rota through DutyMan. A reliable duty rota is critical to our sailing calendar, something we all rely on, and it looks like DutyMan will make the process a lot easier.

Snowball series update

The Snowball series is well under way with the first races taking place on 8th January.
Due to the weather (I know it is winter) we have not been able to sail for the last five weeks. There has been too much wind, no wind, snow and ice!
But, there are two weeks left and four races, so it’s all to play for. It looks like a good weather forecast for this Sunday, so see you all on the water.

Freezer results added

We were treated to favourable conditions this year for the annual Freezer on 27th December. There were 17 boats on the water with quite hefty winds at the start but dropping to a more leisurely pace by the end of the 90 minutes. John Horwood has promptly published the results as usual (under ‘Opens‘).

Race programme and duty rota

The Snowball series of races runs every Sunday from 8th January to 26th February. There are 2 races each Sunday starting at 1.00 pm as normal. The race is open to non-SWSC members and the cost is a nominal £2.00 per person per session.
On duty: Volunteers on the day.

Race results have been brought up-to-date on the Results page. Series League and Overall Results have been updated and 2 new reports showing Series League results by gender and boat class have been added. Final results for the Sunday Frostbite are also available for download. Enjoy!

Southport 24 hour race

SWSC entered 2 boats in this year’s 24 hour race. The A team managed to hold their own and finish a creditable 26th out of the 67 finishers having completed 75 laps at an average 19.23 minutes per lap.
The B team, equipped with their very sensible storm sails for the 24 hours, finished in 60th place, completing 57 laps at an average 25.10 minutes per lap.

Both boats managed to keep upright throughout the 24 hours through a varied selection of winds. Congratulations to both teams. See the photos.
